    Direct x 8.1

    Currently have DirectX8.0. Trying to download upgrade from Microsoft and get the following message:-

    DirectX 8.1 Upgrade
    Could not be installed because of an unknown error. (-2147012889)

    Any ideas what's wrong?

    I just got the same error when trying to download some updates from microsoft´s website. Which browser are you using?

    You have to keep trying because i´ve tried with windows 2000 / IE 5 and appeared the same error message. Probably is occuring some kind of problem with windows update, because that message is extensive to other updates.
