clicking
it's definitely not zip 100's infamous click of death, altho it sounds like it. the loud clicking is coming from my cpu not my zip drive. the clicking begins upon booting up & hangs for about 15 min on the 1st p.o.s.t. screen then the clicking stops as the computer begins progressing ahead then it is intermittent. the 1st time it happened i ran scandisk & it stopped for about a week then returned today. my use of a thorough scandisk this time had no affect on the clicking. anyone have any experience with this type of behavior & can give me some pointers? is it a sign of impending doom?

I had a similar experience once, only it turned out to be the HARD DRIVE failing! it sounded like multiple clicks when trying to boot and a little "love tap" on the box got it going. luckily I caught it in time and transfered my data to another drive before complete failure! btw it was a Gateway with a Maxtor drive 10 Gig
