    IE crash with kernell32.dll

The first time I used IE, everything went fine, then the next time and it has never changed since, it crashed and a message said:
Iexplore has made an error in kernell32.dll.
I have no problem using Netscape.

kernel32.dll is loaded into its own protected memory space when windows boots.and error occur when other applications or files try to access this space.IE in your case.

how much ram on your machine?what version of IE you using? have you shut other programs prior to launching IE?try the IE repair tool.

hope this was helpful.others may have more clues.

I have noticed that some websites causes this lockup while others are fine. Doesn't seem to matter whether I turn on or off background programs though ???

if you are still using the build that came with ME go here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/ie55.htm

to download the newer version of IE 5.5.

the build that came with ME is not the latest and is a bit buggy. i believe the issue is that the version that came with ME has a problem with frames that are either on the right or the left hand side... can't remeber... sorry.

I have problems with IE, too, but I have upgraded from Win98 which had 5.5. Is there a path to the latest version?

hpdevries - which version of IE 5.5 do you have now? to find out go to start>>accessories>>system tools>>system information... look under the general information tab(or something like that) of the internet explorer list... it will tell you which build you have.

what kind of problems are you having with IE?

Never mind, they used some script (unix or something I guess) that don't like Aureate's Spyware that applications such as GoZilla! 3.91 use. I unistalled Gozilla! and voila ! no problems anymore.
    Anyway, thank you for caring.
