    VIA DOS!

    Ignore the format and install part of it.

    What you can do is to system format a floppy disk for your laptop, system format a disk for your desktop and make sure that you have a bi-directional parallel or serial cable to connect the two of them together. After you do that, copy the windows setup files on your desktop from your windows cd rom because you will not be able to use it on your computer while you are in dos. Then, copy the files, interlnk.com or .exe on the system disk for the labtop and create a config.sys file that has a line saying

    Device= a:\interlnk.exe

    When you do that, take the disk for the desktop and copy the file intersvr.exe to it. Connect your parallel cable to both of the ports and boot the desktop first. After you boot the desktop, run the command intersvr.exe. After you run the file, boot your laptop and it should detect the other computer via the parallel cable. You will then be able to install windows on it. A word of warning, ensure that you can access files on your desktop BEFORE you format your disk. You can also use a gender changer for the parallel or serial cable. You can go to a store and get one for about $5.
