hard lockup problem
hey all, i have built 9 boxes and have always installed quality components and not surprisingly had no real problems. that said, a friend built 3 econo units without a hitch so i decided to do the same for my daughters room. anyway i used a pcware 810mlr board with a 700 duron and a 20 gig maxtor. i didnot install the modem but did use the onboard sound, video, and lan. I installed windows xp without a hitch as always. upon first use the comp hard locked several times in a couple hrs. i did not install the included mobo drivers and my friend said that it was prob a driver problem and i should use the included drivers , so i did, same results then i got the xp drivers fron the board site, same results, i have swapped known good ram (128 micron),power supply, and processor with no luck. I have read 5 reviews on this board and while all state the sound and video a crappy, they all rant about the boards stability. Im sure I missed something but obviously dont know what. any help or ideas would be great. thanks

I build a system once from scratch. I used a Tyan board, Pentium III, yada yada. When I fired it up, it locked up randomly. Sometimes during POST, sometimes in Windows, etc. It took awhile, but I narrowed it down to a bad motherboard. Fluke, and the vendor balked but replaced it eventually. Put the replacement in and everything went fine. That was a couple years ago. One of the suggestions I got at the time was excessive heat.

Look for IRQ conflicts, they can cause lockups.
Also, is there any specific behaviour (like while surfing the net and/or listening to music...or playing 3d games) that these lockups occur or is it completely random?
