Software for odd graphic?
I have a lot of the latest games and have noticed, most of the graphics are .tex files
Is thier any software on the market in which these files can be viewed in?
Some one told me that these files are created with Mac software?
I know it is not impossible, some third party always seems to come out with addons in which these files are used. Then when you try to get information on how they did it, you get email response assuming your a moron, example:
Mike,
The software I used to create the .tga file from the games .tex file, is widely known. Although I am sure your like most and can not afford it. I also cant take the time to explain how to do this to everyone who asks.
This has really helped the traffic to my website and I am not going to put that at risk. I know that sounds selfish, but I plan on being the only one ever, that can create these files.
Even if you had the software I really dont think you would have the skills to use it.
I would be glad to do a request for you, but releasing this information will never happen.
Greg (loki)
I did not respond to him because after reading that email, I had to buy a new monitor. They dont work after you put your fist through them LOL!!

many times games just rename common file types so that they can't be opened. Or, they use proprietary compression to create the files (oh no, I am sounding like Loki-Dokey now!).
You might try just copying the file and renaming it to TGA and try and open it. If it is a Texture file, it may be a JPG or BMP.
What game is it?

Thanks for the response, yes at the start I tried renaming, hex editors, etc. No luck.
The games are wide that use these files, NASCAR HEAT, Dirt trck racing, and a lot of the hunting and fishing simulations.
I did find a software program for converting .tex to .tga It is for a road racing game, but trying to open other files it gives me "wrong size error".

my guess is that has to do with propriety compression algorithms used in the file. They do this to prevent this type of 'reverse engineering', kind of like a 'license key'.
I found this on my Paint Shop Pro (JASC Software)
Paint Shop Pro will recognize the following extensions for saved objects:
Patterns: .pat .bmp
Textures: .tex .bmp
Gradients: .jgd
Shapes: .jsl
Styled Lines: .sld
Tubes: .tub
Picture Frames. .pfr
Brushes .jbr .abr
But again, if they applied any special compression, then it probably wont work.
