    Favorites Menu Irritation

Don't you hate when your software does something by itself and there seems to be no way of changing it? It's such a small thing, but it absolutely drives me crazy. When I open IE 5.5 to full screen, my Favories are defaulted to being tacked open. Now, a rational person would just un-tack them and go about their business, but not me. I challenge all the tech support gods out there to help me with this one. I have looked everywhere I can think of for a solution, including the registry. Please help before I need counselling.

bit confused on what you mean by tacked open?
you can customize your bar by right clicking anywhere in the grey area above where it says
'GO' . there you can make your favorites do just about anytjing including not being there.

klwhitacre--And if you mean that the left pane of Favorites automatically opens, have you tried clicking on the X to the right of the word Favorites at the head of the pane? The left pane opens automatically if you left it open the last time you used that IE window, but based on my experience, once you click the X, it will not open again in that Explorer window (until you again click on Favorites in the Toolbar, of course).

ttodd, at the top of the Favorites, there are two icons, a tack (at least thats what I call the little booger) and an X. Let's say I open IE 5.5 and hit F11 to take it to full-screen. When I click on the Favorites icon in the tool bar, the little tack is always on. I have to "un-tack" it before it will auto-hide itself. It IS truly a minor thing, but boy it drives me insane.

Jim, I am not the best at explaining myself. Sorry about that. I replied to ttodd about the situation, and that may be the most concise way I have explained what happens to anyone. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks to both of you.

As Welshjim mentioned above, in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) version 5.50, once you click the X to the right of Favorites

and then close IE, the next time you open IE the Favorites pane will not be there. (To get it back click the Favorites button up on the toolbar).

I think this what you are talking about atleast. I can make the auto hide work un til I close IE...when I open IE again I have to " untack" the auto hide feature. I can't find the answer either

    good luck

Open your IE home page and set it up the way you want it to open.

Then go to tools/internet options/general. In home page section press "use current" then press "apply" at bottom and "ok" at bottom.

Be sure to do it with your home page open. The open window becomes your home page when you do this.

don't think the homepage is part of the issue here

The way I understand him klwhitacre is trying to make the auto hide feature for the favorites menu stick when in the full screen mode-(F11). You can make it auto hide for as long as the browser stays open but...when you close the browser and reopen it the auto hide feature must be activated again.

Sorry I haven't posted for a while. If only I could figure out a way to get paid for sitting at home and playing with my computer... Thanks for all the replies. Buck52 has my situation pegged. I want to keep my Favorites open and have them auto hide in full-screen. I think you guys are getting close! Thanks for all the suggestions.
