ochrisl, yes you are still subjected to the spyware contained within IMesh. ZoneAlarm cannot stop from the ads displaying, nor can it remove/stop the spyware. As far as I know, IMesh will not function properly if any part of the spyware (which is Cydoor) is removed. When I had IMesh, i tried removing Cydoor from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. A window popped up warning me that IMesh will not work if I delete this entry. I deleted it anyway, and started having problems immediately - I couldn't connect properly to IMesh. So in the end I just got rid of the whole lot. I just use Napster now, even though it has become a little limited now due to the culling of copyrighted songs.
If you're not happy with the spyware and IMesh and want to get rid of it, and most other spyware on your computer download AdAware. It will remove all the sh&t that shouldn't be there.
EDIT: If you want to know more about spyware and what it is CLICK THIS for a detailed defenition and links to further information.
Hope this helps and happy computing

ochrisl: Ditto on goldust post.
Also to add that AdAware will not totally clean Cy_door from your computer. There were 4 instances left.
2 in registry and 2 in windows or system...cant remember but have a post on win98 forum under my name "beware adaware not aware..." It list the ones that had to be manually removed after adaware did all it could do. Thanks again to those that helped find that allusive 4th one...

ochrisl,
Spyware generally monitors your activeties on the net. Places that you go, items that you download. Consider it like someone following you around a shopping mall, writing down everything you look at or buy and then turning that information over to somebody else. The information collected about you is sold to marketers and lord knows who else. Some companies are now trying to connect this information with a person's real identity now. There is also some spyware that will read your harddrive to see what kinds of things you have installed and send that information out. On another point...spyware is widely known to degrade a computers performance on the net and leads to errors and crashes.

I crash...therefore I am.
