    asserting network-proxy under redhat netscape

    Gents:

I'm running RedHat 6.0 and Web-browsing with the supplied Netscape 4.51 on a standalone 450-AMD-Linux box. All works fine, until I try to assert a network-proxy under < Advanced Preferences > in Netscape. I punch in the URLs & Port-numbers, but I can't save the config. & instead get an error message from Netscape saying that the sites are not recognized. Hummm

The same settings work fine on my WinDoz box.

What's happening? Looking at the list of error messages in NS or the Network-Proxy rap doesn't reveal a thing.

To answer your questions GHaven ...
    1) yes
    2) I tried both ways, and as both usr & root
    3) two lines only come across
    691 pts/1 S 0.00 bash
    707 pts/1 R 0.00 ps awf

    4) Not at all , and the 'proxy' I'm shooting at is on the "other side" of my ISP.

I hope I was clear - it's not that the proxy-try fails to work, but that NetScape refuses to even accept the input as part of its configuration !

    Hi,

    Some questions:

    1) Are you connecting via dialup and PPP?

    2) Are you connected when trying to change the proxy settings?

    3) If you do connect through pppd, start a terminal window and enter the command:
    ps afw

What are the command-line arguments to pppd that you see somwhere near the bottom?

    4) does your ISP require proxying?
