I Have Some System Info I Need Interpreted...
Hello,
I posted below about a week ago about system info on Windows 3.1. Thanks to All who posted. It appears it is a pretty good machine, 486SX, 33Mhz, 170 MB Harddrive, 4Mb memory as far as the stickers on the bottom of machine. But I need help dechipering the MSD Report.
C: Fixed Disk, CMOS Type 48
91M free 236M total
H: Fixed Disk, CMOS Type 0 14M free 162M total
LASTDRIVE=H:
Full system report will be at http://www.members.staroffice.com/www/robschulte If anyone is interested in full specs.
Does this mean the drive is partitioned & if so is it necessary? & if I departitioned the drive how would I go about it without a copy of the OS? Or does it mean there are actually two hardrives. I know H: was labeled Host_for_C or something.
I thought about downloading a copy Calmira at http://www.calmira.org
to make the interface easier to work in, but is this a good idea with a partitioned Hardrive when the free space looks to be split pretty even.
Thank You for Any Input,
Rob

Neither link worked for me-- but it appears that your hard drive is compressed with DBLSPACE or DRVSPACE, the DOS 6.x compression utility. This is why you have what looks like two fixed disks-- there is only one, the H: is the actual disk which bears a compressed image of the files that you access through C:. It's sortof like H: is a giant .ZIP but you're allowed to work with the files directly as if they were uncompressed on C:.

Neither link worked for me, either.
Your system sounds quite a bit like one I installed Calmira on myself.
Calmira is very useful if you or other users are more familar with a Win98 type interface; or if you prefer that type of features.
P.S.
And as you are stuck with DOS or Win 3.1 with that speed computer; I found this book useful: http://www.ddcpub.com/htmlnew/results3.asp?id=274
Very basic, do and learn; if you need it.
