    Please can you help me

On a formatted hard drive I loaded DOS 6.22 (3disks) I removed the last desk as per instructions and when it rebooted it said the following……
ERROR 1 LOADING OS. This may be due to a virus.
    1. Shutdown
    2. Boot from floppy
    3. Run ONTRACK Disk Manager
    4. Select “Upgrade” option from Main Menu

    486 with win 3.11
    Processor 486-WB-66-7MHz

Please can anyone help (if I have not supplied info let me know)
    Thank you
    David

It sounds as if you have Disk Manager installed and booted from the #1 DOS disk without letting DM start first.

Since there really isn't anything on the drive yet, try updating DM per the instructions. It would be a good idea to go to the hard drive manufacturers web site and download the latest version of DM, then upgrade your existing installation.

After you've upgraded DM, reboot the computer - it should now be able to boot from the hard drive. Reboot again, this time you should see some instructions on the screen on how to boot from a floppy disk - something like "Press Spacebar to boot from floppy". Press the appropriate key, then insert the #1 DOS disk. Go ahead and install DOS normally from there.

And, it would be a good idea to scan your DOS disks with an up-to-date virus program.

Disk Manager is a program that is used in place of Fdisk for those systems that can not correctly recognise the hard drive (due to the hard drive being too large).

Since your drive already has DM installed and Fdisk didn't work as it should, I'd bet that your system has to have DM installed and working correctly in order for you to use that hard drive. Try downloading and installing the newest version of DM, then install DOS as I mentioned above.

How big is the hard drive?
How many partitions do you have?

Boot the computer without a disk in drive A. You should see a message that the Disk Manager (EZ-BIOS) is starting. It will instruct you to press a key to a menu or to boot from a floppy disk. You must do this each time you need to boot form a floppy disk.

If a partition hasn't been set up, you will not find C drive.
Boot from the DOS Install Disk 1 (as above).
Press F3 to exit to DOS from the menu.
    Type FDISK.
Select 4 to view any existing partitions.
If none are present, create 1 DOS partition up to 2 Gigabytes.
Select 2 to make the partition Active.
You can create extended later if you have more space on the drive.
    Reboot as described above.
Again, press F3 to exit the DOS install menu. You should have a C drive now, but it must be formatted.
    Type:
    Format c:

When it completes, reboot again as above.
This time you can install DOS.

That should work. NOTE: Do not use format c: /s as the DOS installation will abort if system files have already been installed.
