    Start up problems

My friend recently got an older (1991) computer with Windows 3.1, when it was turned on Windows started loading and right before it finished, the computer shut down. Everytime the comp is turned on it does this. Is this a problem with 3.1 or is it related to the computer? If it is 3.1 how can it be fixed?

    check power supply

    check drive

    check cdrom

    check drivers

in dos, press f8 to enter setup, command prompt only

    run scandisk /autofix and defrag

    GET WINDOWS 95 OR 98

Boot to the DOS prompt. Change to the Windows Directory.
    type:
    win /?
You can add switches to control the start. Selecting BOOTLOG or something like that (I haven't got 3.1 on system right now). That selection will create a BOOTLOG.TXT file. i think this will be in C:\. Look at this file to see how far the boot got before it crashed. You may be able to remove a bad command if that is causing the problem.
