crossplatform communication
Is anyone aware of a program that will allow macs and PCs to communicate with each other on a lan, like timbuktu? I just need the communication - I don't need to remotely control or.... anything else.

There is only one acceptable solution.
I had already connect a W98 pc with my iMac and it's working fine.
The software comes from Thursby. http://www.thursby.com and the name for the application is "Dave". I am ready to get the registration for that software.
I had to say also that the pc has a "very compatible" netcard, the IntelEther Express 10/100.

On the other side, also check Thursby's "TSSTalk" which is a software solution to allow PC's to do AppleTalk.
It just depends on which machine(s) you need to be "normal" and which you decide should work around the issue.
There are other programs you might look at, like PC-MacLan, but I have not used anything but DAVE and TSSTalk myself.
