How can i put shortcuts etc in this part of the StartBox?
Hi all, heres a question that a few of u have probably been wondering...
On the screenshot below of my startbox u will see a massive empty space on the right that i'm sure could be put to some use...
if u cant see ScreenShot let me know!
I've tried just dragging stuff in there but it doesn't work, u'll see what i mean if u try it....
So any ideas, i'm thinking along the lines of a reg edit trick etc... or anything really that works...
Many thx in advance & Regards

I beleive that section comes from shell32.dll. There may be a way to edit it with a hex editor, you'd have to search around to try and find how. You can cut down things on the other side, right click on the taskbar, properties...
Also have a look at group editor, though it doesn't have what you're looking for, it does have a lot of customization.

Please help us help you by posting which linux distribution, version, and desktop manager you use. Have a good one.
It would be a great pleasure to know I have helped you, and that the fix worked and might help others. You might help me by posting which linux distro, version, and desktop manager you use. Have a most excellent day, dude/ette.

Cheers Downtime, thx for your help, just so ya'll know, i don't wanna have any less stuff on the left side (i want more), as i find it quite usefull, i allready made it as big as it would go...
b'cuz XP IMO has such a cool massive startbox i've managed to get rid of everything from the desktop (including Recycle Bin) i prefer it that way so stuff is allways accessable in startbox without having to minimise things and it makes the wallpaper look better too ...
Its mainly things like the "recycle bin" and the "lock PC" and a few other system tools that i really wanna move to the right hand side to allow more room for the recently used app part on the left...
its a shame i can't just drag stuff over there, i'll do some searches as u suggested, in the mean time hopefully someone's allready done this and can share their technique with me...
BTW: wheres the "group editor" u mentioned, i done a search in WinXP help but it wasn't helpfull...
SIDENOTE for Downtime: i still haven't got around to tasting my last scandisk prob yet, but will let u know when i do in that particular thread!
Many thx, Regards

Hi, i've just realised that i can change the startbox icons to small (better l8 than never), that allows a lot more things to be listed on the left but it obviously still leaves me with this empty space on the right which i can't yet fill...
hhhmmmm, not sure i prefer the small icons or not...

Download tweakui, the second selection takes you to group editor. I keep the recycle bin in the quicklaunch bar, also my documents, I prefer an empty desktop too, other than priority items. But I usually surf in linux, so, even though I use certain things in xp, it's sometimes hard to direct to locations from memory.

Thx, i found that setting in TweakUI, i never bothered looking to see what it was b4, some new features i never even knew existed!
hopefully an expert on "shell32.dll" stuff will come along.... or do u think it would be so much of a hassle to do that no-ones ever bothered yet?
--------------------------------------------
Linux aye, I downloaded the 3 "ISO" CD's of the Free Linux Mandrake 8.1 (best version 4 newbies i hear) for sumut new to learn, just haven't got around to trying it yet tho... never used or seen Linux b4, so that'll be a bit of a mission i expect, i'm sure u'll see my post in the Linux section eventually
