how do you change the IRQ number?

My sounds keeps messing up on me in win2k. It shares the same IRQ port as my vid card (7)

is there anyway for me to change the IRQ port for the sound card or video card so that they are no longer conflicting?

If u not using COM2, try to disable it in the BIOS, and if w2k works any similar to win98 then it will try to rearrange IRQs and hopefully resolve this conflict for you. Another thing to try is to go to device manager (i don't know where it is in w2k, but i know it has it) -> dbl-click device (try both sound and video cards) uncheck "use automatic settings" if not greyed out -> dbl-click "Interrupt request". good luck.

Maybe you have a problem with your soundcard because it has to share it's IRQ with the graphic card. Do you have an AGP graphic card? maybe you don't know but the AGP slot shares IRQ with the PCI slot 1. That's the one usually at the bottom of your board (inside a tower case). On most boards this PCI SLot shares a slot-hole with an ISA slot. That's for everyone to see, you just can't get in two cards at one slot-hole. But the thing with the IRQ is not so easy to see. This PCI slot is quite a bit away from the AGP slot but the IRQ is the same. you can't specify a IRQ for AGP in BIOS, it always uses the one selected for PCI slot 1.
