Restricting Exchange users from using External Mail

    Hi,

I'm trying to clamp down on some of our users sending and receiving emails to people outside of the company, ie not on our internal address list.

I can restrict them receiving e-mail by setting the recipients properties 'accept only' list to contain the 'All Users' distribution list, but I have so far been unable to trace an option that will prevent specific users from sending externally without affecting their ability to send internally.

This sounds like it should be a fairly common problem so I'm sure there must be a way of doing this.

    We are using NT4 SP6a and Exchange 5.5 SP4 with Outlook 97/2000

Any and all ideas welcome !

    Thanks in advance, D.

Go in to Exchange administrator and go in to the Connections and Internet mail connection.
Under DELIVERY RESTRICTIONS. Click on list in Reject messages and modify. Then add the users there. They will not be able to use the IMC after you restart the MTA and IMC services.

    Thanks, tested and working.

Overlooked that as it was labelled 'Delivery' restrictions. had assumed that was for governing incoming mail only!
