NT and PPTP

I am currently trying out PPTP in a NT environment, but I can't log on to the PPTP server which is a NT4 server with SP6. I get various error messages such as 629, disconnected, 741, local computer doesn't support encryption and more. I have not been able to test any VPN connection because I have not been able to establish contact between the computers. I can ping the server but not connect to it (via modem and on LAN). I am trying to connect to the server both from a LAN and a modem, with no results.

I have tried to reinstall both the operative systems and TCP/IP protocols on all machines without any result.

I have no idea what the problem can be, I have used the manual that Microsoft has published (Implementing VPN networks) and followed it exacly without success.

Is there anyone there that can help me with this problem?

take things one step at a time--first make sure the modem is configured and you can actually dial-out. use hyperterminal to check dial-out. what o/s is running on the client? if it is W95 or W98 you need to add "Client for Microsoft Network" and set the properties to logon to a NT Domain. I am assuming also that for your VPN connection, you have RAS setup on the server with PPTP added in the protocols. nonetheless I would only concentrate on one problem at a time...get connectivity on LAN first, then work on the VPN. good luck...

Okay, the first thing you need to do is to snag the RRAS update from microsoft's download site and install that on the server. This added several updates to RAS. then re-apply latest sp.

Next, on the clients, if you installed pptp AFTER the sp6 install, you'll need to re-apply the sp. PPTP will never work unless it goes in that order. Another thing is to double check is the account you're testing has dial-in privileges on the dc.

If you can ping all computers at your LAN, try create accounts for each one on SERVER and put their attributes on Clients.
Use Administrative Tools and User´s Management for Dominios iten.
This make all computers access the Server.
