Check the audio cable running from the CDROM to the side of the sound card. Your cable might have a R-G-G-L pinout and the sound card might have a G-L-G-R pinout, or the other way around. (Note: R=Right, L=Left, G=Ground.)
You're not hearing the OTHER CDROM drive because there is no audio cable connected at all.
