wojo629, Follow the instructions from the Microsoft link below. http://support.microsoft.com/support.../q243/7/87.asp

This part is from Q243787 #3 and is important to follow exactly.

Delete the contents of the Windows Update folder using the instructions below:

Click Start, then click Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.

In the left pane, double-click the Program Files folder.

In the left pane, double-click the WindowsUpdate folder.

In the right pane, highlight wuhistv3.log and click Edit, and then click Invert Selection.

Press the Delete key (or right-click and select Delete). Click Yes to confirm.

Note : Deleting the wuhistv3.log file will clear the entire Windows Update download history. This is not recommended as you will have no record of previous downloads. The above steps delete all files with the exception of wuhistv3.log.

For the "install on demand has detected an error" open Internet Explorer, click "Tools", click "Internet Options", under the "Advanced" tab go to "Browsing" and take the checkmark out of "Install on Demand", click "Apply", click "OK" and reboot your computer and see if this helps. Good Luck.

Why bother with windows update? I see no need to go there. All it seems to do is cause people problems. All i've ever downloaded from Microsoft's site are a couple security updates that I received bulletins for through Microsoft's security emails.

You may want to watch windows updates for another reason. I was talking to my IT buddy and he said that something was in the air about Microsoft slipping in a hidden fix that would cause win 98 etc to act like "XP" as far as the regestration issue goes. He was unsure about the problem of older hardware becommming usless. Food for thought.

    LiveJohn,
What's this registration issue with XP and making 98 the same? I have 98se so I'm curious about this.
    Thanks.
    Sincerely, Nancee

Consider shuting down Zone Alarm and reseting the IE security setings to low and allow cookies.

Reset after you are done with the MS site. i have to do the same when using the Norton Live Up Date.

Both want to know what computer they are connceted with.
