Why does my system make my audio player lag while I surf?

Okay let's see if I can give a detail description of my problem... Here goes:

Okay I have an IBM APTIVA
192 MB OF RAM, 500 MHZ, 2 hard drives, master is @ 1.5G and Slave is @ 9.34G.
I upgraded from WIN 95 to 98SE

Any how, I have winamp installed in my computer. I upgraded to I.E. 6.

Now my problem is that when I surf, I usually like to have 3 windows open. I throw on my music and surf freely. That's how it use to be when I had WIN 95, I.E. 5.... And a 233MHZ processor!

Now that I have upgraded my system, why am I getting a lag? When the browser is surfing the song gets choppy and basically sounds like a scratched CD...

I have ran System Mechanic, Ran First AID, Defrag both drives... Yet no solution... Deleted a lot of files @ start up using System mechanic..

What do you think is the problem? Appreciate the help...

Start> run (and type in field);
dxdiag
Now hit "enter" or click "OK".
Now choose the sound "TAB" and turn "Hardware sound acceleration" level down a tad, from "FULL" to "STANDARD".

Worked for me mate and what are mates for, now don`t get mushy now...

has a feature called "ie 6 nightmares" and that is one of the bugs in IE6. They offer a solution. One of the three solutions will be put here but it's too long to put the whole thing here:

This built-in multimedia player pops open on the left-hand side of IE and allows you to listen to or watch Web media while continuing to surf other pages in the main browser window. Go to Tools > Internet Options, click the Advanced tab in the dialog box that opens, then scroll down the list to the Multimedia section. Find "Don't display online media content in the media bar" and make sure it's not checked.

If this option is checked and you're using Windows Media Player (WMP) as your CD or MP3 player, you're in a bit of a pickle if you want to keep it that way. Once you click a Web link to an audio file, WMP automatically stops playing its current sound source (your CD or MP3 file) in order to play the audio from the link. And, unfortunately, once the Web audio is done, WMP doesn't remember what it was doing before, so it doesn't resume playing your music. If you let IE play Web audio through the Media Bar, then you won't have this problem. </b>

Looking through dxdiag, I found many interesting things..... First of all, my driver was outdated. And then I found this in DirectFiles tab:

The file vfwwdm32.dll is incorrectly installed in the Windows folder and should be deleted.
Several files (d3d8.dll, dpnsvr.exe, dpnet.dll, etc.) are missing!
Several files (dinput.dll, dinput.vxd, vjoyd.vxd, etc.) are old versions, which could cause problems.
Several files (mciqtz.drv, quartz.vxd) are beta versions, which are unsupported and could cause problems.
You should reinstall DirectX to get the latest version.

I downloaded DirectX Drive 8.1 from MS website but it only says my drivers are 6.0.... Is this the max my system will support?

What about the above errors? What can I do to fix that? I appreciate the help...

Is there a similiar "dxdiag" option but for Video drivers?
