Blue screen crash
Need some technical advice. On startup and restart I get a blue screen crash in APIX.VXD just about every time the system boots. So far I have:
1. Renamed and replaced using sfc.
2. Downloaded the updated files from the adaptec website (I have Easy CD Creator software installed)
Deleted and reinstalled since renaming to apix.old did not work.
3. Uninstalled and re-installed the Adaptec software.
4. Uninsatlled and re-installed the video drivers. There is an updated driver available but it causes other problems with my system.
5. Refrained from introducing my system to the business end of a shotgun.
Anybody have any other ideas?
Thanks!

Hi rebbasser:
Can you give us the whole error message? Have you tried replacing the file from your windows 98 cd?
Found this and this Though it looks like you may have already tried them?

Howdy Daizy!
The full message is "A fatal exception OE has occured at 0028: C167E64D in VXD Apix(01) + 0000268D"
Already tried the sfc route, both renamind as well as deleting, but thanks for the suggestion!

Is your burner IDE?
do you have any USB devices such as a camera installed or any miniport scsi type devices such as a parallel port zip drive?

I've got both a usb card reader in a usb hub and a parallel zip drive installed. I have had both for quite a while with no problems, but I know that doesn't mean anything.

Hey IMM--
You got me thinking with the comment about the parallel drive--I updated the drivers on my ZIP drive and apparently that took care of the problem--I have rebooted several times and no problem. Thanks for the suggestion!
Happy Trails!

OK Folks, I spoke too soon. It is happening again, and in addition to all the other remedies tried I even re-installed windows98.
That shotgun suggestion in the original post is looking better and better. Any more suggestions?

Try running this. It's for the same error you are getting for an IEEE 1394/FireWire device problem with Windows 98 SE.

Solution found! Did an item by item selective startup and found out it was the keyboard manager that was causing the problem. Updated the drivers and problem solved. Thanks for all the suggestions!
