Sound Card Driver problem...
I insert the WIN98 CD and it says the driver is not there. I don't know what the sound card it, it says "UNKNOWN" type.
It's not THIS computer, it's another. The cover is off, can I tell what the audio card is by looking at it?
Help please?
I am leaving for Maryland from Las Vegas tomorrow (6 months) and really need to get this fixed quick so my husband can reach me on the free PC to PC "net2phone" service..., calls from PC to PC are free!

If you are not sure which sound card it is, perhaps this will help;
There is a FCC number on every electronic part.
Go to the FCC lookup site and see who makes the card.

How did you search for your sound card name..? If you did START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEMS>PROPERTIES>DEVICE MANAGER> UNDER SOUND, VIDEO GAME CONTROLLERS u should be able to see what you are looking for. Else, just follow the links the guys above posted.

Hi Cyndy.
Is this the same sound problem we were dealing with before you went on 'holiday'?
If it is, then I think I remember some of the details (SIS integrated sound, etc)
If its another comp, a good place to start is device manager as already suggested. If that brings up no clues, then post back the make and model of the Mobo. If its integrated sound again there may be some clues there.
Its good to see you back.
take care,
Dan.

*BadBrain* - No, different computer...
The sound is working now, but I have a related problem as a result of installing the drivers.
Please tell me if I should start a new thread...
There's a line in the autoexec.bat that is causing the computer to freeze at the big WINDOWS screen during start-up.
I went to the help files and tried the selective start-up in MSCONFIG and learned that this line is causing it:
LH C:\WINDOWS\AU10DOS.COM
Also related is that my display is stuck on 16 colors and 480x640 (the big one)...
Can someone help with this?

Morning Cyndy.
That was easy. You just had to move the programs 'far away from each other'. cool.
Did you fix your 640x480 problem as well?
If not, you just need to install some videocard drivers.
btw, we kinda got in trouble for those 'off topic' messages that time.
Here's my email address for future reference:
