Problems copying from a:\
On my wife's computer. K6-2 400mhz, 128mb ram
20mb HD.
Some times, in Explorer when I try to copy a file from a:\ to c:\ I get the message, "Cannot copy (file name). The system cannot read from the specified device."
If I double click the file it will open.
Ran scan disk and defrag. SFC listed 17 files to restore, only 2 would restore from the Win98 disk all except 2 are .dll, one .ocx and one mmc.exe which opened MS Managment Console when I double clicked it.
The second time I run SFC it was clean.
Where should I look?

Hi,
I'd try replacing the floppy cable first, then the drive. If you still have problems, verify that your disks work on another machine. You may have to replace your floppy drive.

I once solved the same problem with a head cleaner. Worth a try. Radio Shack still carries such I believe.

Thanks for the ideas, I'll pickup a head cleaner and try that first, then the ribbon cable.

One more thing to remember, anything magnetic laying next to a floppy can ruin it. Even a magnetic screw driver. Radiation from a moniter I've heard can ruin one.
