[RESOLVED] Access Violation c000000
The problem is between Kontakt v8.7.1 and Sonar.exe v8.5.3. I've reinstalled both and tried different versions but I can't solve it. At the bottom is the blurb from Event Viewer. Here are the other things that I tried or were recommended:
1. Run System File Checker
Done, no errors
2. Disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP):
Can't be done with 64 bit files. DEP is off for all files all the time.
3. Update or Reinstall Graphics Drivers:
Done
4. Check RAM Integrity: Run the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool to identify faulty memory modules.
Done, no errors
5. Disable Third-Party Antivirus/Firewall:
Don't have 3rd party Antivirus/Firewall
1. Add Sonar to DEP Exceptions
Can't be done with 64 bit files. DEP is off for all files all the time at the moment. "You cannot set DEP attributes on 64-bit executables"
2. Run as Administrator
Sonar is set to open with Admin privs
3. Bit Bridge and Plugin Compatibility
I don't use any 32 bit plugs
4. RAM Management
32 RAM no errors, 6 gig paging file System managed
1. Match the Plugin Bit-Depth
All plugs are 64 bit
2. Disable Kontakt Multi-Processor Support
Not possible in Kontakt 8.7.1
3. Adjust Virtual Memory (Paging File)
32 RAM no errors, 6 gig paging file System managed
4. Reset Kontakt Database
Done
5. Check Audio Buffer Size
Set to 512
6. Force Fixed Buffer Size in Kontakt
Not possible in 8.7.1
7. Reinitialize the Database
Done
5. Check Sample Drive Connection

Sonar 8.5.3 seems to be pretty old. Have you tried running it in compatibility mode?

Yes it is old but I've been running in on Win 10 since it came out. It started with a Kontakt update I had to have to make the newer plugins work. Others have had the same trouble.
I did try compatibility mode but it was more problematic and so long ago I can't remember why. If one is treading on the memory space of the other surely they'd get new locations in memory when they get reinstalled? I've reinstalled both more than once but no change. At one time I managed to get rid of the error so there was nothing in Event Viewer, but the plugin simply stopped working.

Unfortunately without the same programs, it would be very difficult for us to troubleshoot. You may need to find a forum about those specific apps.

That thread expresses the problem perfectly. Everyone's got an opinion but no one has a fix. Sonar supports VST3 but I'm thinking there might be a very small tweak in the vst3 spec since then, or the vst scanner was different because some load and some don't. Sonar was discontinued so there's no support and no forum. I decided to switch to Cakewalk by Bandlab, it's almost Sonar by another name. It's got a lot of code in common and a lot of menu items are in the same place. It detected all my Sonar files seamlessly and so far, I've had no access violations.
