    Transferring data

    What ho one and all,

I'm guessing the answer is obvious, but perhaps I'm mistaken!!!

Just taken delivery of a new smartphone; it comes with a USB-a / USB-c charging cable.

the on-screen instructions suggest the best way to transfer files from the old to new, is with a USB cable. But does everyone have a USB-c to USB-c cable? What can I do with a USB-a cable? There is no suggestion as to what one is supposed to do, just use a USB-c cable.

I do not have an adapter nor any way to connect both phones, so how can it be done? Can I connect both to the computer USB-a sockets?

    Thanks and toodle pip

I've always used a Samsung app called SmartSwitch. I install it and turn on wifi connections on both phones, designate send and receive on the appropriate phone and let it do it's job. It transfers all important data like contacts, stored SMS messages, photos, apps and related files.

You can also use a cable to connect the two phones but both ends need to be the correct type to plug into each phone. They aren't expensive.

DITTO to everything Fink posted. I also use SmartSwitch to copy my whole phone to my desktop as a backup. I find that using a cable is faster than wifi.

    Thanks for the info.

As it happens, a friend has given me his 'old' phone which is a Samsung (Android 12)and I did use SmartSwitch to copy everything to it. However, I won't go into the long story but due to the provider not being able to assist with an annoying problems, they have very kindly given me a budget TCL with latest Android 15. I thought about SmartSwitch but since all details refer to Samsung, did not try it.

However, not really sure how I managed it, but everything has been copied via either wi-fi or Bluetooth, so more or less, good to go.
