Windows 10 - cannot access windows update - says no internet connection

    Hi All,

I have recently been given my nephews laptop to play with. He took up the offer of windows 10 back in May but since that time there have been no updates from windows. The updates are set to be done automatically but nothing has happened. I have tried to manually check for updates but it keeps telling me there is no internet connection. I have tried both on wifi and hard wired and it refuses to accept the connection but only for windows update. The internet is fine for every other program on the laptop so I have no clue where to start. I have tried pointing it to the connection and having live internet windows in the background to prove the connection but it still maintains that the laptop is not connected. Is there a setting someplace that I have missed?

Sounds like somebody made some reg changes.

I used this to update 3 computers

You can download the update from here

But for the wife's silly HP Stream, I had to Download and run the media creation tool to get started.Made a USB stick.

Thank you Train, I remember your name from years ago. I have now managed to run the updates successfully but still have no clue why windows update doesn't see the internet connection.

For the record I used the first link and it worked well.

Thanks for your support as always

Well there were a few things that would block the Win 10 updates, if installed. Or M$ updates would just not see it.
I had both, and why I went the routes that I did.

You should be good to go now.
