    Resolved [RESOLVED] updates qestion

Win 7 Microsoft has created a new issue, i had the "new version of windows" hidden in updates, it has reappeared and i can not find the link to hide it again. Microsoft up to their old tricks again? There are some updates to do for 7, but i can't get rid of the windows version which i don;t want,,

If you know? I have looked at everything i can think of. I tried to run check updates again, and it just kept searching?

    If you know

If you are wanting to KEEP Windows 7, and you have not yet installed either Never10 from grc.com or GWX Control Panel from ultimateoutsider.com then I recommend that you install one of these ASAP. Otherwise, you might end up with Windows 10 whether you want it or not. These programs allow you to prevent the installation of Windows 10 and they remove the unwanted updates from Microsoft.

    https://www.grc.com/never10.htm

so if i'm running win 7 on one 8.1 on another, install this NEVER 10? What if i want 8.1 on the 7 after this is installed?

Apparently something got written over or reinstalled in a different update recently as this same issue was addressed a few weeks or months ago, The GWX had been installed in an update and all this had to be removed which i did, so they reinvented the wheel and hacked it again?

    Multiple parts here

This was not an issue 2 weeks ago, my daughter's l top was down so i let her use this 2 weeks, did a different ip address let this happen?

Did you select the option to remove the update files? That is generally not a default selection.

Post a screen capture of what you are seeing that shows "Win 10" in updates.

it;s the reg win 10 icon you see any where, lists 2900 some bites, and says get started

i just read the GWX and watched it on yt and that refers to the icon in the tray, not in updates "ultimate outsider"

i had this deleted before and there was a space to remove it from updates,, as the authors says on the other tool, microsoft has hacked it, in the regustry

    read this

    http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/201...ing-guide.html

HALLA LUYA or how ever you spell it///I FOUND IT

You have to click on NAME in the UPDATES it brings up another list WIN 10 WAS CHECKED and now it is UNCHECKED

So being i ran Never 10 and was not really the issue at hand because it wasn't related to updates, being this system then is still DISABLED and will prevent any os upgrade without enabling it first?

And being i cured the issue and am not attempting an upgrade at this time, i could enable it being it was not a tray issue, correct?

That article or articles does not refer to windows updates but the nagging of the NOTIFICATION , if you leave it disabled under NEVER 10 does that stop the pop up windows to upgrade to 10, different issues here?

If you have Never10 run, and you read the information from grc.com, then you know that it uses Microsoft's "approved" method for preventing a Windows 101 "upgrade". As it says in the grc.com site:

So, yes. Never10 is relying upon Microsoft to obey their own provided settings, which they created a special update to Windows Update to provide. And they buried those settings where no “regular user” would ever find them. Corporations the world over are relying upon those settings to prevent unwanted upgrading of their existing systems. There is just no chance that Microsoft would ever choose to deliberately bypass the express desire of their users by ignoring their own registry settings. It's not impossible, but it'll never happen.
