    Resolved [RESOLVED] USB ports Code 32

    Hi,

    I tried a few weeks ago to research this, but I didn't get anywhere. I'm guessing that after a windows update, my usb ports quit working. I don't know which update though or when it started.

    See pics, let me know what you think.

    Any help / ideas appreciated!

    In Device Manager, right-click each one and select Uninstall. When you reboot, Windows should automatically run through it's "Found New Hardware" routine and hopefully get them setup for you once again.

    Hey Doc,

    Selected uninstall for each, did a reboot. Error message came up, but windows didn't do it's Found New Hardware deal...so I checked for a windows update, there was one but it didn't fix the problem. See attached.

    Was I supposed to have something in the USB hub or not? I didn't....

    Did you try whatever it says under that "What can I do if my device did not install properly?" link?

    If that doesn't work, try using System Restore to roll back Windows to a point in time when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

    Yes I did, no luck there. Reading through system restore, I really think that's the way to go. Will let you know if that worked or not.

    Sad to say System Restore did NOT work

    Next step would be to try restoring an earlier system image or backup.

    Hi Midknyte,

    Yes, I just did and I still got the same code afterwards. :|
    Now I must find my disc and go waaaaaay back.
    Every once in a while, the touchpad on this laptop quits working. Normally, it's no biggie, I just go into mouse then ELAN settings and enable the touchpad. In order to do this, I plug a mouse into a USB port...see the problem? I spent an awfully long time navigating using the keyboard only, I was pretty rusty at that but I finally got there. For the longest time, I had the on-screen keyboard stuck on the screen blocking what i needed to see behind it. Honestly, I'm going to wash my mouth out with soap and then I'm going to hunt down that cd....then I'm going to teach myself to navigate better just using the keyboard.
    Thanks for the suggestion though, it was certainly worth a try!

    You can try the filters fix.

    You can also try this:
    Manually change the driver's start type in the registry. This is the most direct solution to the Code 32 error and should fix the problem if the previous three troubleshooting steps didn't work.

    Note: This will likely be the fix if you find the driver's start type in the registry as 0x00000004 which means that it's disabled. The correct start type depends on the driver. For example, cdrom should have a start type of 0x00000001.

    SUCCESS! I know it took me forever to finally get around to fixing this, but here is what I did.

    I tried a few more things that did NOT work (possibly because I didn't want to pay for the scan through http://smartdriverupdater.com/)

    Drum roll please:

    For me, it involved deleting the lower filters, then a restart. Was a seriously easy fix, but I'm glad that I backed up the registry first, it really did make me that much more confident.
