Transferring photos

I have done this a few times with no problems but now can't get Toshiba laptop to recognise my Huawei smartphone.
When I plug it in the pc beeps twice (which normally signifies recognition) but does not show up in my hidden icons nor in Windows Explorer.
I used to get the Windows autoplay screen and then transfer my photos but now without recognition I can't do this.

Am using Windows 7. Any ideas please.

Please post the model number also. It'll save us some time.

Did you press "Turn on USB Storage" on the phone?

Did you try a different USB port on the computer? Did you try connecting to a different computer? Did you try another data cable?

I had not pressed "Turn on SUB Storage" on my phone. Can you please explain what this does.
It now works perfectly, thankyou.

That dismounts the storage from the phone so that it can be mounted by the PC.
