Resolved [RESOLVED] cd/dvd drive not working

i'm running windows 8 on my home pc. i have an internal cd/dvd drive. for some reason it has stopped reading audio and video discs. when i insert a cd/dvd, it spins for a few seconds but then nothing. it can, however, see installation discs (i've tried my windows 8 installation disc).

it does not show up under "computer" in windows explorer but does show up in device manager.

i've uninstalled the driver in device manager and let windows reinstall it. no change.

i DID notice the following, however, in properties | device status: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

is there any way to fix this?

    thanks in advance.

Try deleting the Upper Filters in the registry. You may or may not see a Lower Filters. Delete that also if it's there.

Nice. BTW, do you have any Roxio products installed?

Ok. Just curious. I've seen that error on a lot of systems that have Roxio apps.
