[RESOLVED] startup procedure - can i shorten this?
just moved from a vista to a new windows 8 machine.
my startup procedure USED to be (in vista):
press on-button.
xp loads to the desktop.
easy. simple. direct.
now, my windows 8 startup procedure is:
press on-button.
windows loads a picture that looks like a two-year-old's drawing of the seattle space needle.
i click this.
windows now asks for a password.
i enter password.
windows now loads the metro screen.
i click on the desktop tile on this screen.
windows loads to the desktop.
maybe still easy and simple but certainly no longer direct.
i know there is something called "classic shell" that emulates the windows 7 interface. i'm not sure i want to go that far.
is there something i can do to have 8 go directly to the desktop bypassing the "space needle" screen, the password screen (i don't need a password on this home machine) and the metro screen?
thanks in advance,
terry

Try Classic Shell. It doesn't "emulate" a Windows 7 interface; It just overlays the Start Menu. I also like that it gives me back the "Up" button in Explorer.

Otherwise, read this article:

Cool. No offense to Metro/Modern, but it's just not for everybody.
