    Slow Dell Inspiron E 1505

Been trying to speed up a very slow computer for my friend. Takes a long time to open up anything. Have ran Malwarebytes and Superantispyware scans and looked clean except for some adwares I got rid of. Not sure if it is a hardware thing or virus thing. I now come to the mercy of virtual dr . Need some help , He has windows XP service pack 2 and 2 gigs of ram.

The first step would be to test: 1) the RAM, and 2) the hard drive:
    1. Memtest86+

Version 4.20 for Windows direct download links:

    2. Hard Drive Manufacture's Diagnostics:
Note: If you're not sure which make hard drive is in it, Seagate's diags work with most.

    msdn.microsoft.com > Bug Check 0x69: IO1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
The IO1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED bug check has a value of 0x00000069. This bug check indicates that the initialization of the I/O system failed for some reason.

Important Info If You Have Received a STOP Code

If you received a blue screen error, or stop code, the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from data loss. A hardware device, its driver, or related software might have caused this error. If your copy of Windows came with your computer, call the manufacturer of your computer. If you purchased Windows separately from your computer, Microsoft provides support. To find contact info for Microsoft or your computer manufacturer, Contact Support.

If you have experience with computers and want to try to recover from this error, follow the steps provided in the Microsoft article Resolving STOP (Blue Screen) Errors in Windows.

These actions might prevent an error like this from happening again:
    1. Download and install updates and device drivers for your computer from Windows Update.
    2. Scan your computer for computer viruses.
    3. Check your hard disk for errors.

    IO1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED Parameters

    None

    Cause

There is very little information available to analyze this error.

Most likely, the setup routine has improperly installed the system, or a user has reconfigured the system.
If the RAM and hard drive passed the diags above, you might try a repair install of XP. The steps are:
    1. Boot the computer from your Windows XP CD.

    2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen press [Enter] to start the Windows Setup.

    3. Note: Do not choose the "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R" ... because you do not want to use the Recovery Console.

    4. Accept the License Agreement to continue and Windows will start searching for existing Windows installations.

    5. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and NOW press [R] to start the repair. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot.

    6. When your computer reboots, if you see a message about pressing any key to boot from CD, do not press any keys. Setup will then continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

Once that's done, go to Windows Update and install all available updates, including SP3.
