configure gmail to download emails to client

i use different email clients (computers) to download gmail emails (pop protocol).
Is it possible to download the emails on one PC and still download on another (finally). I dont want those emails to be "marked" downloaded
until I have it on my main computer at night.

Note:
It should not be too hard to set up GMail to allow downloading the messages to multiple computers. However, it might more difficult, if it is possible at all, to have the messages remain marked as Unread.

You'd have to look for a setting on your desktop email client like "keep on server".

You didn't specify which desktop client you are using. Is there a reason you're using desktop clients instead of just the Gmail web interface?

Using POP on several machines and leaving one as the "master" is sometimes not an easy thing to deal with. For example, how do you know all machines grabbed their copy for their inbox before the master computer grabbed the final copy??

If there is any way you can support Gmail's IMAP, that would be preferred (as long as only 1 machine is acknowledged by ALL users to be the one that manages the mail folders.) This is essentially what I do with my smart phone and PCs with my Gmail. I can manage the mail from wherever I am and the mail is always everywhere automatically.

What steps do you take to make a "master" computer and what in the world is a "final copy?"

Download from server does just that....and you could setup hundreds of computers to use the same account..

I extrapolated from that the question is about having one single PC (at home at the end of the day) that removes it from the server. That PC would be the one that removes it from the email server, the "master" if you will. A layman's term, not tech. The final POP connection that deletes emails from the server would indeed be the "final" copies pulled.

All I am trying to say is that POP is not the best thing. I cannot recommend it at all now that most email servers support IMAP. We used POP at work for several years and it was a nightmare. If the client (in our case it was Exchange) loses sync with the server, you either get nothing or everything again.

Now I see said the blind man...Thanks.

But ya - there would be no need to have a "last" main pc... If it happened to check mail first - then no other pc would get the mail.
