Need help; NIC adapter now says limited connection
I have an AMD Athlon dual core PC running WinXP SP3, Avast anti-virus. Suddenly, the LAN connection dropped while online. Thinking it might be the Netgear router, I plugged directly from the cable modem to the NIC card, and it connects but the yellow triangle with exclamation point show saying limited or no connectivity.
I ran a quick scan with Malwarebytes having updated it a couple of days ago and it found 4 infections which were removed. After restarting, the same issue prevails. Am running a full scan with MB now but so far nothing has shown up.
Any ideas? Am sending this from my laptop which fortunately still functions.
Thanks.

Error can be displayed if/when modem is acting up.
Disconnect modem from power source for about two minutes, reconnect and wait about two minutes and test.
Cheers.

Copy it to a flash drive and take it to the affected system.

Thanks for the help.. As it turns out, there was some malware that had been removed by Malwarebytes, but it took a couple of reboots to finally clean it. All is back to normal now.
