    Your IP info should be:

    IP Address: 192.168.1.something (2-255)
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1

A Primary DNS of 192.168.1.1 should work, but may not be the best setting.

Post the make and model of the router for additional assistance.

    ?

Using a "private ip" does NOT mean that now "no one can mess with me from the internet".

I just bough 2 wire068 wireless network key 5422839288. My brother put the modem and router under the desktop. I am watching netflix on Tivo now. It is slow to connect to watch the movie and plus I am trying to watch the movie when every time 10 second to go back to the movie. I have my desktop in an extra bed and my tivo is in live room. Should I move modem and router from the shelf under the desktop to put it on the top of the table?

If you are getting buffering while trying to stream the movie, then you could definitely try moving the router to see if you can get better results. It's one of those things you need to experiment with to find the best position. Getting the router as high as possible is always a good plan though.

No, all the settings are contained in flash memory, so it is quite OK to unplug the router to move it about. The only things you tend to lose is data such as monthly download/upload stats, etc. If the router has those stats, and they are important to you, make a note of them first. But nothing that affects the actual operation of the router will be lost.
