Upgrading CPU to an Opteron 185

    My system:

    ASUS A8N SLI(socket 939) with a Amd Athlon 3800+.

Thinking about upgrading to the Opteron 185.

An AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 is just ridiculously way out of my price range. Hell even the single core FX-55 is ridiculously out of my price range. Hell for that price I could buy a new system. Jesus thats nuts.

    What do you guys think?

How much were you planning to pay for the Opteron? If you can get one very cheaply, then it would probably be worth it. It definitely wouldn't be worthwhile to spend serious money on it - any Socket939 rig is going to be on the slow side compared to the latest CPUs.

I wouldn't bother myself. I think that $150 would be far better spent if it was put towards a new rig.
