Using your links, I do see the cached links. Using FF 4.01 and IE 9 .

I have a idea that you have a .js in your temp internet folder that is blocking them.
Use Ccleaner and TFC by Oldtimer , to dump everything in the temp folders..

Then they have disabled that feature, time to get them busy and fix things.

May even show them this thread as that may help out.

If you are referring to my company's IT dept, I seriously doubt that. This is my laptop for field work. It's not on the company's domain, and no one has access to it, physically or remotely, but me.

It is definitely Goggle's doing. Other users have encountered the same thing. It seems to me that they used to use a simple cookie to identify my IE8 before but now they are using something more permanent. It identifies my IE8 and directs it to use specific servers at Google which display the search result page using the new layout. That's why not every browser experiences it.

I may try the scripting things later this week but to tell you the truth, Google is getting worse and worse to me, especially after reading this thread, http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...d.php?t=249256, and I don't think I am going to use Google much anymore. Now I am using Yahoo.

Sadly Yahoo is getting worse and worse also!

They are just about to change thier design AND BLOCK ALMOST ALL BROWSERS (Except the latest crap (I think so they can montor people better))

Yahoo Japan WAS EXCELLENT until a few weeks ago when they started screwing up thier network also! (I have an email account on there and now i cant access it because they have added some stupid CAPTHA to be able to login (And i cant read it))

I guess its no surprise,THEY ARE OWNED PARTIALLY BY THE IDIOTS RUNNING YAHOO USA UNFORTUNETLY

Oh well, like they say, there is no free lunch ... this is what we pay for these "free" service ... so, after all, I guess we can't complaint too much unless we are willing to pay real $$ for a search service.

You should try changing your USERAGENT to look like your using IE6 falcon and then you might have the better layout back....

I found a copy of IE4.4 (The EXE (724k)) and i ran that and went to google.com AND I HAD THE FIRST ORIGINAL LAYOUT THEY EVER HAD YEARS BACK!!! (BOY WAS IT NICE)

Text looked quite good,etc........ THE LOADING OF SITES WAS EXCELLENT!! (FASTER THAN WITH IE6,I WAS DOING GOOGLE SEARCHES AND IT WAS COMING BACK BLAZINGLY FAST WITH RESULTS!!)

Only thing is,alot of sites wont allow thier sites to be loaded with IE4.4 (I got a 401.2 error on alot of sites (Access denied) and other formatting issues (I guess IE4 doesnt properly work with the IE6 files (Ie5 does 100% (I tried that yesterday)))

It was quite interesting though..... I would think putting your UA to IE6 would be enough to get the older google layout you like.....

I would love to change my UA to IE4.4 .. Google looks AWESOME on that UA!!! (And actually using IE6 instead of IE4 would be quite the thing!)

    List of IE strings

    EDIT:

Using IE5.0 user agent gives you the ORIGINAL GOOD GOOGLE LAYOUT FROM YEARS BACK ALSO!

I tried it using this page: http://www.hashemian.com/tools/browser-simulator.htm

    With this url: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=hello

Hmmm, appearently Google is playing w/ the layout again. Since last night, all my computers have been displaying a new Google page with a black band on top where the filters for Web, Images, News, etc. are located. And, the "Cached" link comes back!

Oh boy! Hope Google will just stick to what works and stop messing w/ it so much.
