Problem transfering video to other PC on network

Have new digital video camera. I have been putting the videos on my PC. Now I went to transfer the videos to the main PC so I can view them there and burn them to DVD. No matter which way I try to transfer the videos I get an error access denied window pop up when I try to open the folder the video is in. I have to use software to get video off of camera. Pixela imagemixer is what it is called. I am freaking out now cause these are movies of my kids and I am afraid I won't be able to save them to DVD. They are just mpeg videos.

I have tried copying from my pc to main pc thru network. And when I tried to share the video folder on my pc, when I access it from the main PC I get access denied. I am thinking it has something to do with the software used to get video off my camera. Both PC's running XP home.

You need to "take ownership" of the files from the previous installation. If it's WinXP Pro, go to My Computer>Tools>Folder Options, and on the View tab, make sure "Use simple file sharing" is unchecked. Then right-click on the folder that you want to take ownership of, choose "Sharing and Security", then on the Security tab, click Advanced. Then in the Owner tab, choose the account you wish to take ownership (usually your Admin account), and check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects", and OK out of the dialogs.

If you're using WinXP Home you do the same, but you have to boot into Safe Mode (press F8 during boot up), then right-click the folder, choose Properties and you'll find the Security tab there.

That didn't work. Denied access box still pops up as soon as I go into the folder where the video is.

Double check steps taken for network sharing,

If only a one time copy over,
You can slave the hard drive in question into the "main PC" for the copy process.
    Cheers.

I can copy the files to the other PC with no problems. But when I go to access them is when I get denied.

Now after the file is transferred, then take ownership of it.
A SS said, as you have WinXP Home, you have to do it in SAfe Mode.

I have done the take ownership in safe mode and now I get a microsoft visual C++ error. Something more is going on with the PC....all virus/spyware scans were done and it is all clean. Having problems with opening videos in movie maker now also. Going to reformat soon. Thanks for all the help.
