    Saved data in libraries/folders disappears w/ Windows 7 64-bit?

I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 64-bit. I’ve been having trouble including folder within libraries at times. At times when I go back to a new library/folder, the folder is empty even though I made sure there was data saved to that new library. This data I copied over from my docs is even “no more”. This is even happening on my external drive for back up.
I have a feeling the data has to be on my PC or the external but I can’t even find it when I do a search. Is this a glitch in the 64-bit version or am I creating libraries/folders wrong. I’ve read the MS pages which was no help. Currently, I’m creating folders on my desktop and saving data there as that’s the only way I can find what I saved. If this continues, I may have to go back to Vista or get a Mac Book.
Thanks for any suggestions if this is a common problem!

I think I answered my own question as my hard drive is virtually full. When I power down, I think the most recent data I save gets deleted. Time for a new H/D!
