F2 key for renaming is not working
Hi All
I have win 7 ultimate on HP G72-B66US laptop. The F2 key for renaming is not working, but, with the fn key it does work to lower the screen brightness.
What could be wrong

Do the other function keys operate normally - does F1 bring up Help, for example?

Yes, F1 brings up help and F5 refreshes.

Just a refresher.
F2
You can use the F2 key to rename an item when working in Windows. Highlight any folder or file, and press F2. You will then be able to type a new name for the object. After you type the new name, just click outside the name box or press the enter key to make the name change. This works just like right-clicking a file or folder and selecting Rename.

Not so much for you, but I needed the refresher. Thought it might help others.

For grins - look in the BIOS for "Action Key Mode" and Enable/disable Action Key Mode. (set it to the opposite of what it is now) Boot into windows and see if the F2 keys behaves differently.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

thanks Train, I understand we make silly mistakes.
SR Jones, I forgot to tell that I have already set the actions keys to opposite of what it was when new. Maybe I will revert back to its old setting and check and post here again.

I did that and it works fine i.e. works for reducing the screen brightness. BUT, still the rename function is not working ? Seems to be OS error rather than hardware ?

If it has just started happening recently, then this would be a good case for trying System Restore, and see if that will bring it back.
Nick.
