    Resolved [RESOLVED] Dual monitor set-up NVDIA 9500GT DVI (2)

    WinXP Pro SP3.
    Nvdia 9500GT 1024mb video card dual DVI-

    When I plugged in the second monitor the system would not recognize.
    and got BSD.

    A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
    to your computer.

    The problem seems to be caused by the following file: win32k.sys

    VIDEO_DRIVER_INIT_FAILURE

    Technical Information:

    *** STOP: 0x000000b4 (0x8a1d0008, 0x8a232000, 0x8a261000, 0x00050000)

    *** win32k.sys - Address 0xbf9176f0 base at 0xbf800000 DateStamp 0x4d1dd63f

    cabling is DVI for the two monitors.
    The original screen stayed blank. The second screen gave the BSD.

    Was the pc turned off when you plugged in the second monitor?

    What happens when you reboot?

    When you look in display properties do you see the second monitor?
    If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

    I connected the monitor before booting up.

    This was the second monitor (MAG Innovision) (Mag Technology co)
    FP-2226AFW

    The original monitor which is what I am using now (LG 22")

    The LG did not come up just blank screen.
    The MAG come up with the BSD message.
    turned off, and removed MAG.
    Now back to single monitor (LG)

    Supersparks

    The drivers....are up to date.... I think. as I used Everest to check and got

    Did you go into Windows Display properties and "extend" the display?

    I only tried the monitor from the boot-up system only.
    (System off......connect dvi.... connect A/C.... Boot up..... result BSD )

    I am assuming you mean the NVIDIA control panel which shows a selection of monitors. but having removed to boot-up... there is only the LG connected.

    Can I, without sparking the system connect second monitor,with system running?

    Would turn off monitor, hook up VDI (which is still hooked to graphic card), then the A/C,,,, then turn on monitor. should get a search for driver or something.... right, or wrong.
    If the latter, than directions please.

    in control panel/ Display/ settings/ advanced / Plug and play monitor and NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT... /GeForce 9500 GT / Start the NVIDIA control panel / this has the set up multiple displays.... see attached NVIDIA control panel.jpg


    Cannot locate anything like windows display extender

    I don't like the idea of hot plugging a monitor unless you are connecting via HDMI which is designed to do so.

    What Steve was referring to is the built in Windows Display Properties (right-click on Desktop, choose Properties). You should find the multi-monitor settings in the Settings tab, IIRC. Leave the Nvidia controls alone, they are more trouble that they are worth, as you are discovering. I've used multiple monitors with Nvidia cards for nearly 10 years, and I've never used the Nvidia controls in all that time.
