Resolved [RESOLVED] No Battery Is Detected

    Hi all,
I have a HP DV 3505xx notebook that originally shipped with Vista. Last week I upgraded to Windows 7.
I notice now that the battery doesn't appear to be charging and the message over the battery icon on the task bar is "No battery is detected".
I have tried the HP recommended remedies that include:
    A hard reset
    Reset BIOS to default settings
    Update BIOS
I have also tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery.
What I wonder is whether I could uninstall the Windows 7 ACPI driver and replace it with Vista driver? My only problem is that I can't find a HP specific ACPI Vista driver for download.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

What happens if you try to run it on battery power for a few hours?

    Thanks for the reply, Steve.
It won't run on battery power. Period.
A couple of things I should mention.
The AC adapter I am using is a "universal" adapter, not the one that came with the computer (it was misplaced, we are looking for it).
The computer is about a year and a half old, although it sat unused for nearly a year with a cracked display until I replaced the display last week and upgraded the OS to 7.

I would advise trying to find the original AC adapter, as it sounds like this one is not correct for that battery. I suspect that the charge has fallen so low that the computer is unable to see that there is a battery Hopefully with the proper adapter it will charge up OK.

    Solved.
I found another AC adapter (a Dell) that fit and plugged it in. Immediately the battery icon indicated "plugged in and charging". Then I plugged the universal one back in and it seems to be working properly. I was able to run the HP Battery Check utility which showed the battery as "good". So It looks like the issue is solved.
    Thanks.
