    Seagate 1.5 TB FreeAgent backup taking hours?

    I’m running Vista Home Premium and have a Seagate External. The last time I backed up My Documents I either copied the folder and pasted to the external or did a drag and drop. The process didn’t take too long.

    Today I tired both and it was said 11 hours left when I returned home after about 4 hours. For some reason it also restored past and deleted icons to my desktop.
    What might I be doing wrong as I don’t recall the Seagate taking up 10 hours to back up My Doc’s? I also don’t recall past icons being reinstalled on my desktop.

    Seems to me that the external was picked up as a USB1.1 device.
    Dirty electrical contacts caused that to happen to me.

    Unplug and replugged a few times cured that problem for me.

    Might work for you.
