IP Address Problem

Hi Everyone!

Not sure where to start... but I'll give as much info as I can.
Windows XP Pro SP3
I use Cricket wireless broadband for my internet connection.
When I went into Control Panel>Networks and right clicked on my cricket connection's properties it showed that I had 2 IP addresses.
One is called a Client IP Address and the other a Server IP Address

As far as browsing, downloading, uploading, everything is fine.
I like to play computer golf... and I went to a website called Game Spy
www.gamespy.com to join others for online play.
At this website you can play many games. For my particular game, you go into a "LOBBY" and meet up with other players and someone will volunteer to host the game, and the rest will join. Once the host "launches", the website starts the game on your computer and you all meet in the game's lobby then go on and play.


I could not join a game, the website started my game on my computer, but I got an error msg stating that I was not able to connect with lobby data.

So I tried to host and got this warning:
"Game Spy has detected that your computer's internal IP address xx.xxx.xx.xx is different that it's external address cc.ccc.cc.cc. (did not provide actual addresses)
This may be caused by firewalls, a NAT proxies or other unusual network configurations and may prevent you from hosting a game...

I am clueless regarding networks, IP addresses and such. I found something about NAT (boy all these abbreviations kill me !) and I think this is what Cricket is running.
Anyone have any ideas how to get around this? Settings changes? Anything?

Post the make and model of your modem.
Sounds like it has a router in it. Not uncommon.

Go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and note your ip address.

Now {type in} ipconfig
and hit enter

Do the ip addresses match?

It looks like your modem/router is using NAT (Network Address Translation). The game may require some sort of port forwarding to work properly.

That seems like it may be the solution jdc2000,
I just did a search on port forwarding, and found a bunch of stuff, totally out of my expertise, besides a $30.00 program that does it automatically.
I think I have to talk to Cricket about setting up port forwarding, and I'll check on the GameSpy website for information on it there also.

Any input you or anyone can provide would be great!

I did find this for a start....
Although looking at it, if I have to select my modem, I don't think the Cricket modem would be listed as it is rather new.
