Wireless Network with Windows 7 Home Premium

I have Windows 7 Premium on both my desktop computer and my Netbook. I have set up a network so that I can access My Documents on my desktop from my Netbook. I have opened a Excel file on my Netbook which is stored on my desktop, when I make a change in the file I cannot save it because it says it is a read only file. What do I need to do to correct this issue?

I hope I have posted this to the correct forum.

    Thanks for your help.

You need to give yourself full security rights/permission to the folder where the file lives.

Thanks for the reply. Do I do this both on my desktop and Netbook or just the desktop?

The machine where the files are located.

I did the steps per the instructions where the files are located. When I went to my netbook and opened up the file and made a change I was denied access and it would not save. Is there something else I should be looking for?

Do you have a user account on the PC with the files that has the same name and password as the user account on the netbook that you accessing the files from?

The netbook does not have the same name as the PC where I am accessing the files from. I do not use passwords for either computer.

Windows is particular about permissions for sharing My Documents files and folders. You could try putting the documents to be shared in the Shared Documents folder instead. Or, have a look at some of the links below for options on setting up sharing of the documents where they are now located.
