Considering to upgrade my laptop entirely

Don't even know if this is possible

I want to upgrade it entirely instead of buying a new one. I own a Compaq Presario C714NR. Didn't know anything about computers when I got this, so now that I need an upgrade pretty bad, it's time to decide buying a new one, or if it's possible, completely rebuild this one with new everything. If this is possible, please let me know, if not... I'll just save up for a new one(:

    Thanks.

I would advise you to start saving for a new one. The only practical upgrades on a laptop are increasing the RAM and putting in a bigger hard drive. As that model is limited to a max of 2GB of RAM, it's upgrade potential is pretty limited. Though if you are currently running WinXP with the standard 1GB of memory, you would certainly notice a difference if you added another gig.

Yeah, I'm already maxed out on RAM atm. Shame it only holds 2GBs!! (Running Vista btw)

But yeah, I'll def. save up for a new one. Thanks. I'm curious if Asus laptops are good? Didn't hear about them to recently, and I've found one I might save up for.

Asus Netbooks are good, but their laptop reviews always seem to be somewhat indifferent. If I was after a laptop the two brands I would look hardest at are Acer and Samsung, they always seem to produce nice stuff and get excellent reviews.

Acer's are great. Did not know Samsung made laptops, I'll have to check them out.

Any particular model you would prefer? (budget is under $900)

You may have different models on your side of the pond.

    Here is a good Samsung:

And here is a good Acer:

Great choices. The Acer looks more convincing to me, in my opinion. Very affordable to. Definitely will keep a close eye on this until next month when I decide to order.

Again, thanks for the help. I can always depend on this site for great advice and help. (:

Before you do anything, check your notebook's warranty. You may void the warranty if you replace an original part, such as the hard drive, yourself. When in doubt, call the notebook maker's support line. You may learn that you will void your warranty unless you buy the replacement hard drive from your vendor.

I recently bought a Samsung Q-430 at Best Buy. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+...ract_desc=null It is a very nice laptop and I have been well pleased with it. Has the i5 Intel CPU chip and separate 512 MB graphics memory. Pretty speedy for a cheaper laptop.
