    Resolved [RESOLVED] Mp3 software problem

Hello all, downloaded, or tried to download 5 mp3's to desktop from Amazon using their downloader, could not open them, so they gave me a refund after 30 mins on the phone trying.

I downloaded them via play.com zip file, extracted them onto the desktop, and they work. Though left in the zip folder, same problem as Amazon. Says something Re:codec when opened in WMPlayer, and asks me to chose a program to open them.

I disabled my Norton AV and Firewall, still would not allow.

Any ideas so i can use Amazon again.

    Thanks GEP

I've never tried to play a .mp3 file from inside a .zip file using Windows Media Player, so I don't know if that would work. My guess is that it won't. You probabyl have to place the .mp3 files in a normal folder, not a .zip folder/file in order to play them. If that is the case, that would be the normal and expected behavior.

You could use a program like GSpot to determine what Codec is in use:

BUT if the file was a MP3.. it would be MPEG-1 Layer3

Certainly you will (not could) run into problem when attempting to play these files from with in a zip file/folder.. Extract to their own folder and attempt to play from there...
Says something Re:codec when opened in WMPlayer, and asks me to chose a program to open them.
this would indicate that what you are playing is NOT a MP3.. have a play with GSpot and see what you get

If you force wmp to try to play a zip file, even if that zip contains an mp3 then it will indeed report a codec error.

VLC (Videolan) Media Player though is quite happy to accept a zip file, and will automatically open and play the mp3s within.

    Smile Re:Software etc problem

Hello all, lets start again, as i have not worded my question properly.

I have a problem downloading from Amazon.co.uk, Using Their Downloding program.

Problem, when it downloads, it comes down as a file i cannot open.
Said its my AV, or firewall, So I Disabled both in Norton, still the same problem. When i choose a program Windows Media Player to open, it says i am missing a Codec.

Now, as for Play.com, they sent me the MP3's in a ZIP file, i was able to Open them, Extract them to my Desktop, and Play them, no problem.
(Cannot open or play them within the Zip file, of course)

Hope i have cleared up the original question?? My fault.

P.S. The second part of General winters reply the wmp box is the fault that appears

    Thanks GEP

What type of file is it downloading? Post the file extension and file size details.

    Re:Mp3 Download problem

Hello JDC2000 and all, not sure what file the Amazon downloader downloads. It could be a .amz file.
The Amazon downloader is listed in my add & remove programs, or was listed till i removed it.

They have said they have not yet come across this problem till now.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/cust...274430#install you could check here.

    Thanks Gep

The amz file is not the music file, but a file that directs the amazon downloader program to the correct location to actually download the mp3 file.

When you click on the download link (or complete the checkout), you are supposed to select Open with MP3 downloader.

The downloader will then run and download the mp3.

As you can see when i purchased an mp3 from amazon, the amz file is a tiny 14kb file, effectively an encrypted file that will point the Amazon downloader program to the correct internet location with the correct validation that the purchase is genuine and authorized.

Since i saved the amz file instead of clicking Open.. when asked, I can now add the download to the manager, by right clicking the file, selecting Open with and selecting the amazon downloader.

That will queue and download the file, in vista it drops the file into a folder at Users/user name/music/Amazon MP3/folder name based on artist and track/
