Unhappy Microsoft Word Nonexistent Product Code

I recently bought a Compaq laptop with Windows 7. I used Microsoft Office 2007. I keeps telling me that I need to enter the product code. The problem is that the software was pre-installed in the computer. I need to get the product code to work on Word again. Everything is locked on it. What can I do? I tried to get some help on the Microsoft site, but it was too confusing to get a straight answer.

When you took possession of the computer, didn't it come with the software for Office so in case you had to reinstall from the recovery partition?

As I said, it came pre-installed in the computer. I did not receive a physical copy of it. No CD/DVD, nothing.

    I'd try asking here...

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/e...office/threads

the Microsoft forums dedicated to exactly those types of issues.

Have you tried contacting Compaq? All the necessary keys should have come with the computer.

bdsr80--Is this perhaps a limited time trial version installed by Compaq? Perhaps now MS wants you to buy the full version.

I try to contact Compaq which re-directed me to HP. I posted my question on their forum. I just have to wait.

I can't buy the full version. I spent almost all of my money on this computer since my other laptop unexpectedly died on me.

I just work on Notepad instead.

Under the circumstances (likely a trial version) I'd go with openoffice as well.

Well, I've downloaded it. I don't know what this is, but at least it would be something.

It's a full function Office suite, that is free. It has everything Microsoft Office has in their suite. It can keep the format of your existing Microsoft Office documents, and anything else associated with Microsoft Office 7. I use it too. I got it because I couldn't afford to buy the Microsoft version.
