    New Folder error

My OS is Win7 Home. From the beginning, I could not create a new folder in any application which has "New Folder" button. The button visibly reacts to the click, yet nothing happens. Creating a new folder on the Desktop is impossible: right-click menu does not have New... line!
This is a new PC, still under a warranty. Gateway technician suggested doing System Recovery. I do not think it will help, as the problem has existed from day one (besides, he warned me that I will lose all my data).
Apparantly, I am not alone, as I found many solutions for that error online, none of which worked for me: there is no necessary key in Registry and I cannot creat a new one even by C&P the suggested line in MS-DOS! Despite that, once clicking New Folder button actually created a new folder! I could not believe my eyes, and repeated - another New Folder appeared! I naively decided that Win7 fixed itself... no, it never happened again! If only I knew that! I'd created hundeds of new folders and kept them in super-folder somewhere for future use.
Anyhow, does somebody know a fix?

Try running the System File Checker. Go to Start and type "cmd" without the quotes, then right-click cmd.exe and choose "Run as Administrator". Once at the Command Prompt, type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. You may need your Windows 7 disc, though most of the time you don't.

As always back up your Registry first.

    Thank you, guys!
For whatever reason, I tried pcs365.10's solution first. It worked right away, took ~2 seconds.

I am not sure what it was. It was a link, for sure. Yet when I clicked on it, something like a window with a short table appeared (no usual download) and now everything became fixed - Works, etc. and the desktop!
