Migrate Live Mail settings from XP to Vista
For some reason I am having a difficult time trying to figure out how to bring Live Mail from XP to Vista. I can't seem to find a good link for that anywhere. I am ready to move to Vista on my main pc but that has my wifes Live Mail and if I screw that up I will die at her hands so is there a good tutorial somewhere for that? I need to migrate all emails and settings.
thanks in advance

popman--I am not sure I understand what you plan to do.
How will you install Vista on the PC? Will you wipe personal data and all programs, like email programs and messages?
If you will wipe everything, you will have to make copies of all your messages to an external drive before you do anything else. Once Vista is installed, you will have to download and install Windows Live Mail (Vista installs Windows Mail by default.)
http://download.live.com/wlmail?wa=wsignin1.0
Then copy the message files back to the hard drive and in Windows Live Mail, click File|Import and follow the instructions in the Wizard.

I plan on installing vista over the top of XP and I know that you get a file called windows.old but to access the live mail files from there is what I dont understand.

popman--There should be no problem accessing the Windows.old folder
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932912
But I would feel safer by also backing up the email messages before installing Vista. In any event once the message folders are back in an accessible place on the hard drive, use the new Windows Live Mail program's File|Import.
